Uduaghan orders comprehensive re-tarring of roads in Asaba

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has directed contractors handling road project in Asaba and its environs to embark on comprehensive re-tarring of roads in the metropolis in order to avoid flooding.

Dr.Uduaghan who announced this during the maiden harvest thanksgiving mass of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church Asaba said approval has been given by the State exco to ensure that contractors return to site immediately after the rains.

The governor assured Deltans that his administration was committed towards transforming Asaba and other major towns in the state into befitting cities adding that Delta state deserves the best.

He said “The issue of flooding will become a thing of the past in this state; we are determined to tackle the flooding and bad roads. By next rainy season, this DBS road will no longer be flooded." “I assure Deltans that we will not wade through water in Asaba and other parts of the state by the next rainy season.”

Governor Uduaghan made a ‘faith pledge’ during the ceremony and promised that the state government would assist in the building of the parish saying “Delta State Government will be deeply involved in the building of this church.”

Delivering a sermon at the mass, the quest preacher Rev. Fr. Charles Akue explained that thanksgiving was an act of gratitude and appreciation to God stressing that it was a personal spiritual exercise. He admonished Christians not to see harvest as a fund raising ceremony and a burden but as a period of blessing and divine favour from God.

Speaking further, Fr. Akue stated that there are many reasons for thanking God saying “The reasons for celebrating harvest is numerous, it include thanking God for his goodness to us because he deserves it.”

The cleric noted that Christians are fulfilling God’s command in the scripture by thanking him adding that thanksgiving gives pleasure to God. “The more you thank God, the more pleasure you give him.”

The harvest thanksgiving mass which has the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Stella Oghene as the harvest planning committee chairman was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochie and other top government functionaries.

DTSG HANDS OVER 40 SCHOOLS BACK TO THE MISSIONS

In its determination to improve the moral and intellectual standard of education in the state Delta State government has officially handed over 40 schools to the mission and former owners

The State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who formally presented the handing-over letters to the missionaries assured teachers and non-teaching staff of the affected schools that their monthly salaries
and pensions was guaranteed by the state government.

He said that his administration was determined to ensure that schools were returned to their original owners as it would help improve on the standard of education saying “This exercise is intended to improve on the standard of education. The mission has done this before and can still do it again".

The Governor noted that government schools would compete with mission schools in providing quality and standard education in the state. “I believe the mission will provide a standard for government schools. We shall strive to match this standard.

Governor Unduaghan lamented the moral decadence in the society stressing that education was gradually declining because teachers and students were no longer dedicated to their responsibilities.
